Grand Canyon National Park - South Rim

There are so many beautiful places in the U.S.A that we don't appreciate enough and the Grand Canyon National Park is one of them.

If it is not on your bucket list- add it right now!

My husband and I were looking for a warm domestic place to go on our next adventure and what could be hotter than the desert? Now that being said - yes Phoenix is a nice warm place to visit in March. However, the Grand Canyon may or may not be.

We planned our trip to the south rim of the Canyon for the end of March.  Due to the elevation of the canyon, the north rim is still icy and cold around this time.

We flew into Phoenix and stayed in Flagstaff.  I would recommend staying at the canyon if possible to save yourself from driving back and forth (3 Hrs round trip) from Flagstaff after a tiring day of hiking.  We spent two days at the canyon and hiked two of the main trails in the area.

While at the top of canyon, it can be a bit chilly and windy due to the elevation. Once you start hiking down, it gets warmer.

If you are not able to hike at an elevation - there is a trail along the rim as well with beautiful views.

Bright Angel Trail

The first trail we explored was the Bright Angel Trail.  This is a maintained trail but very steep.  It is also the safest trail so there will be a lot of foot traffic.  Don't get too carried away going down because you have to hike back up! Depending on how far down you hike, account for twice the amount of time to hike back up.  Watch your step and be careful not to walk too close to the edge.  Pack water and snacks to keep you going!

Yaki Point

Watching the Sunrise at the Canyon is a MUST! I don't care how cold or windy it is, you have to go.  It was such an incredible experience watching the sun slowly illuminate the canyon.  The Canyon walls a firey red. Yes it was windy and freezing at that hour but it was worth every second. The winds are pretty strong, don't go too close to the cliff edge! It could knock you right off.

South Kabib Trail

This trail has less traffic and views that go on for miles. We enjoyed this trail more than the Bright Angel due to that. It is more difficult as well.

Phoenix -
We spent our last day driving back to Phoenix and giving our bodies a break from hiking and the cold.

We didn't get to spend too much time in the city unfortunately but did eat some good foods!

Barrio Queen - Mexican
   - Try their pomegranate guac!

Dobbins Point
   - Great view for sunset!

and of course my mind is now blanking on the other places we tried. :/
